Slice Of Life: That Fishing Boy

On my way to Betul in Madhya Pradesh from Nagpur in Maharashtra, I came across a huge Taalab (Water Pond/tank) and from National Highway I saw a Boy sailing a fishing boat in the Pond. It was a summer day of June and in full blown out Sun he was engrossed in fishing. Being a Piscean, I have a special affinity towards water, and the entire scene was so serenely spread before me that I had to stop.

I clicked few shot from distance which made my urge stronger to capture his maneuvering in the water closely. I went all the way to the bank of the pond and took few shot and also chatted with him. He is the only son of his mother and was sailing a rented fishing boat which was available on for afternoon hours. If he could catch few fishes, they would eat in the evening or else one more night they would spend empty stomach. He planned to sell few fishes in the market to meet other requirement. He does this everyday and this is his livelihood. Despite such dire circumstances, I found him full of life and he enjoyed talking to a stranger i.e. me.

Later, his friend also joined him in the quest to help him achieve his target. Actually boat belonged to friend’s father. That’s the story of this boy which made me to believe firmly that everyone is hero in one’s circumstances and fiefdom. A person like him teaches me to be humble and feel gratitude towards God’s offerings. And only through traveling, it’s possible to come across such people and their story moves us from within and shakes up our conscience for good. May God bless him!
