Some 400 years back, Shahjahan of Mughal Dynasty, then the richest empire, built Taj Mahal for his lost love and in 1990s Sheikh Zayed charged with heavy flow of petro-dollars decided to create a never seen, never heard of extravaganza of marble. Such building is not possible in a democratic setup of our modern world and someone like Sheikh Zayed, who had the authority and a zeal for writing future history could only dream of building such a grand structure.

This mosque is unbelievable! The largest carpet is amazing, brings so many questions for me – how did they transport it? In pieces or whole? Or was it made in place? Fascinating.

I haven’t been to Abu Dhabi yet, but it has recently gone on my radar so I was really interested in reading your post. Love the floral mosaics of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. They are beautiful and I haven’t seen before. I recently went to Morocco and visited my first mosque and find them very intriguing! Wow, it’s rated ahead of the Taj Mahal, Great Wall and Eiffel Tower? So cool! I’ve seen the Great Wall and Eiffel, but still need to see this Grand Mosque and the Taj Mahal. I also love seeing the “largest, smallest, most unique, etc”’s of the world and so the largest carpet and chandelier are right up my alley. That chandelier with its Swarovski crystals is wow type of beautiful! I think you’re right that it will be a Wonder of the World soon! After reading your tips, I didn’t see that you can’t enter if you aren’t Muslim so I’m assuming you can then?
